All news- Climate Department Publishes Baseline Emissions and Reduction Targets
The Network's baseline emissions for the twelve months to 31 August 2026 are 184,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent. The Department has set reduction targets of 15 per cent by 2028, 35 per cent by 2030, 60 per cent by 2035 and net zero by 2040.
- Climate Department Announces Adaptation Programme for the Principal Sites
Seven adaptation works at the six principal sites of the Network, addressing flooding, extreme heat, storm damage and water shortage, begin with site surveys in October 2026. The Network's first climate risk register is published today.
- Climate Department Sets Out Reporting Requirements for Departments and Member Organisations
Every department and member organisation must name a reporting officer by 30 September 2026 and submit its first quarterly emissions return by 21 October 2026. Guidance, the return template and the 2026 conversion factors are published today.
About the Department
The Climate Department of the Velocity Interoperability Network sets and monitors the emissions reduction targets of the Velocity Interoperability Network, plans the adaptation of its sites and services to a changing climate, and collects and publishes climate reporting from departments and member organisations.
It compiles the Network's emissions inventory, maintains the climate risk register, coordinates adaptation works with the departments that manage the principal sites, and reports progress against the targets each quarter.
