Climate Department Sets Out Reporting Requirements for Departments and Member Organisations
Office of the Spokesperson
The Climate Department of the Velocity Interoperability Network today set out the arrangements under which departments and member organisations will report their emissions. Each is asked to name a reporting officer by writing to the Department by 30 September 2026. The first quarterly return, covering the period from 6 to 30 September 2026, is due by 21 October 2026.
Returns record energy use, fuel purchases, vehicle mileage, business travel, freight, purchased goods and services and waste for the quarter. The Department has published the conversion factors for 2026 with which activity data is converted to tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent, together with a return template. Organisations whose baseline emissions are below 500 tonnes may submit an annual return in place of quarterly returns.
The Department verifies each return and consolidates the figures into a quarterly report for the Network. The first report will be published on 27 November 2026. The reporting steps, the calendar of return and publication dates, and answers to common reporting questions are set out on the Reporting page of this site. Reporting officers may write to contact@climate.gov.vin.
